President's Message
March 2010

"How Can I Help?"

Have you thought about how to get more involved? Most of us will say, “I just want to play golf”.  Well, that's fine and dandy, but somebody needs to put things together so that we can “just play golf”.  That's why I'm asking you to consider your strengths, your talents, and your abilities (besides being an excellent golfer) and seek a position on next year's board of directors of SAWGA.

Time for elections is coming up.  A slate of officers will be presented by our nominating chair, Peggy Baker, and you may choose to follow those recommendations or you may nominate from the floor during our general meeting to be held soon.  But why not seek a position yourself?

The only elected officers are president, first and second vice-presidents, secretary, and treasurer.  All other positions are appointed by the president.  But how are we to know you're even interested in serving if you haven't come forward and said, “Hey, I'd like to promote SAWGA more.  How can I help?”

As of this writing, we are searching for someone to take the position of membership chair so you may be the perfect person for the job.  “How do I qualify?”, you ask.  You need to be picky about spelling.  No one likes to see her name misspelled.  An incorrect spelling, too, of your address may lead correspondence totally astray or delay receipt.  The lack of a dot or dash in an e-mail may mean “no-mail”.

Memberships come in throughout the year;  however, prime focus is on the drive starting in the summer and lasting through the fall.  You will work

closely with our webmaster, Terry, sending him  information as soon as you can after receiving members' information.  Your information goes into our online directory.

You will also work closely with our money person, Nancy White.  She'll need to collect members' dues from you, again, as soon as possible.  Your records will be coordinated with Nancy's to act as a double check on dues information.

Did I mention you need to be an organized person who is detail oriented?  Hah!  That's a no-brainer, and your president is seeing if you're paying attention.

Syd Muenster, our current second vice-president and membership chair, can grease the skids for you.  She has done an excellent job in this position, and she makes it easy for anyone stepping in to take over these responsibilities.

So don't be shy about stepping forward.  Let Peggy Baker know or let any board member know.  “Send me in, Coach!”  That's the rallying cry we wish to hear.  We're not asking for perfection, but we are asking for willingness to support the organization with your time and talent.  After all, every one of your officers is a volunteer.  Each offers time and talent to run a better organization.  Join us in that effort, won't you?

Hit 'em well, but volunteer, too!
