November 2003 Newsletter
By Audrey Westbrook

Greeting from your absent President.

As some of you know, I have had a chronic shoulder and neck problem this year and have not been golfing much.  It is getting better but I still have to limit my golfing.  Also my job has gotten in the way somewhat.  I have had to work more than my usual two half days.  Enough excuses why you haven’t seen much of me.  Hopefully after the holidays and getting my son moved to Iceland, I will be back more regularly.

Now to the news:

Christmas Party and tournament

This event is coming up soon and we will be putting out an email for sign up soon.  It will be held at Pecan Valley Golf Club this year.  It will be an 8:30 shotgun on Mon., Dec. 15.  It will be a “Best 2 Ball” with ABCD players.  A luncheon will follow at 1:00.  The cost will be $52.00, which includes golf, cart, lunch, prizes and gifts.  ($14.00 for the lunch alone.)  There will also be a sign up and information on the web site.

Web site

Many of you are aware of our web site and how it works but many are not.  We have been very fortunate to have Terry Lambert volunteer much time to setting up and maintaining this site.  It contains so much information and is very easy to access.  He updates it regularly with the weekly winners.  You can also find the schedule of events there and sign up directly from the web site.  For those who are not familiar all you have to do to get there is go online and go to www.sawga.org.

Handicaps

As you know we are a group with flights based on handicaps.  Pat Blair is our handicap chairperson this year.  Each month by the 10th of the month she calls your respective clubs and gets an updated handicap.  Each member is responsible for reporting all of their scores to their club and maintaining a current handicap.  We have had an ongoing problem with some of our members’ handicaps not changing over a period of three months or more.  We are aware that some of this is due to the member not being active but for those who are active and not changing we see this as a problem.  Everyone’s handicap will fluctuate if even within a small percentage point.  We have decided that in order to address this issue, Pat or Mary Lucas (as Fri. tournament chair) will contact those whose handicaps do not change.  Please do not take this as a personal affront.  We are only trying to find out why and assure that your club is accurately reporting and maintaining your scores.

Directories

Hurrah!  Our directories are finished and ready for distribution.  Diane Murchison has once again done a wonderful job of compiling the information and getting it to the printer.  We will start distributing them this week.  I will try to get them to someone from the board at each of the respective clubs so they can get out as soon as possible.  These do not get mailed as it is too expensive so please ask the board members at your club or come to one of our play days to get your copy.
