| Firstly, ladies, welcome to another SAWGA
year. I would like to introduce myself to you as your new President. My
name is Jennifer Guidry. I live out at Fair Oaks. I originate from
Yorkshire England but I have been here in the USA since Nov 2002 and
absolutely love it. I feel very honored to have been asked to be your
president and hope I can do as good a job as previous presidents and can
add in some small way to this wonderful organization. SAWGA was started
in 1932 and is still going strong but I am sure we could make it
stronger with your help. It would be nice to introduce more members.
Please feel free to bring a guest either to Last Monday or maybe a
normal Friday playday. They would be most welcome and hopefully they
will join us. You will find membership forms on our web site, SAWGA.org.
Now I would like to introduce our 2004-2005 board members. Mary Lucas
does a wonderful job at running the Friday playdays at the City courses.
I am so glad she has decided to stay on the board this year. They really
need our support It seems to me we either use them or lose them and they
are so good. I know some of you who are members have never ever played
the City Courses, only the last Monday courses which are a little more
upscale. But please come and play with us on Fridays. You will be
surprised just how good they are. PJ Wright does a fantastic job as our
special tournament Chair and runs last Mondays so efficiently and
playing skins makes a change (well it does if you win one! - which I
rarely do but it's fun). Again, PJ works endlessly for our cause. She
has been to every meeting of the Advisory Committee the City Council has
held (sometimes 30 hours a week) on whether or not to privatize some of
the City courses. Hopefully you have read the letter sent to the people
concerned and given our support to their findings. I would also like to
say our sunshine chair Ida Sample also gave a lot of her time and duly
drafted the letter to the committee which I only had to sign and send.
We all know why she is the sunshine chair, she never stops smiling. Keep
it up, Ida. Our first committee meeting was held Tuesday 27th July and
my thanks to Dana Conn for being a wonderful hostess. Dana is a new
member to the board and I know will do a wonderful job as membership
chair, so if you would like a friend to join or whomever please contact
her. Margaret Rumpf has once again graciously offered to be Vice
president and I know that I will probably need to call on her advice and
expertise. She has a very able assistant Jackie Desobrie. Jane Ward also
has agreed to carry on with her duties and does an absolutely super job
on our summer play days. Please try and support her. Barbara Hemmi is
once again our social tournament chair and has already arranged our
Christmas Play Day at the Quarry. Won't that be fun! Handicap Pat Blair
unfortunately has resigned and we thank her for all the work she has
done and welcome back Betty Lieb as a member and also as our new
handicap chair. While on the subject please remember to hand all cards
in to your respective clubs or organization after play days. Ginger
McGee is our new secretary and at our first meeting she did a great job
even though at one time she was on her hands and knees looking for a
sheet of paper she dropped. Dana thought she was checking for dust!
Nancy White is our new treasurer and I know she will be as efficient as
Comel was. Last but not least Bay Ponsiego will still do our Ringers. I
still have to find out what that is but I know it is only cards put in
from our home course which this year is Willow Springs. I think I have
introduced the board to you. Old and New we will work hard for you. We
still need someone to take pictures at our main events which then will
be passed on to Terry Lambert who does an absolutely wonderful job with
our SAWGA web page. I would like lots of input from you the members. If
you have suggestions (not rude) or any contribution that could improve
the organization then I would be more than delighted to talk to you. You
will find all Board members E Mails or Phone numbers in our new
directory or maybe you would like some questions answered at the opening
coffee morning on August the 27th at Barbee Winn's 9-30 AM. I will do my
best to help. I would like to thank Judy Hankins our communications
officer, without her you wouldn't be reading this and also if you have
things of interest you would like our members to know I am sure Judy
would be more than helpful.
Unfortunately our summer match play was cancelled due to lack of
response by members and we have decided to have a rethink on this so any
contributions as to why it was so poorly supported would be very
helpful. Please feel free, ladies to pass this news letter on to anyone
you might like to introduce to SAWGA as a member and maybe bring them
along as a guest to our coffee morning which is our very first meeting
of the year.
I would like to say how absolutely delighted we are to have Ofelia
Lopez as a new member as yet she is still an amateur but she had
outstanding scores at the city tournament and anyone who watches the
golf channel will see her on Big Break 3. Won't that be a thrill to
watch? I will try to keep you posted on dates.
I will say my goodbyes but will keep you posted on news I think would
be of interest Hope we have a wonderful golfing year not too much rain
and lots of fun, (I swear it rains more here than England). Look forward
to seeing you at the coffee meeting.
Best wishes, Jennifer
