December already! When playing our home
course, Silverhorn, the first week , the weather at least made it
seem like December and perhaps got all of us a bit more ready for
the festivities of the season.
Nancy White, our effervescent holiday
elf, has gone all out to organize a fun and festive golfing day
followed by a delicious luncheon on Monday, December 15, at The
Republic Golf Course. She and her helpers have surprises and goodies
in store for all. It promises to be as colorful and bright as last
year’s event.
For those of you who missed it, we
all walked into a room filled with a riot of color. The gaily
wrapped presents at each table setting provided a sensory delight
for the eyes, and the chatter that resulted threw everyone into a
bright and happy holiday mood. This year we again bring presents,
brand new, please, to exchange with our fellow golfers.
Speaking of gifts, we have one to
give our November Contest winner.
She’ll receive the gift at the Holiday Luncheon. We might all be
wondering just how this individual got so many answers right (ten
out of twelve). Did she quiz her fellow golfers at every play day?
Whatever the means, our Cindy Tuerk had the most correct answers.
CONGRATULATIONS Cindy! No, it’s not
an all expenses paid trip to a golfing paradise, nor is it a sleeve
of balls guaranteed to fly off the driver head in a puff of smoke,
but you will enjoy it. I promise.

An unfortunate bit of news that all our
members will reflect on is that of the need to replace our weekly
tournament co-chairs: Karen Antis and Linda Smythe. Karen, as many
of you know, came through a harrowing car wreck in which she
suffered a concussion, a broken elbow, and several bruises. She
continues to battle the after effects of the crash. At this time,
Karen is still unable to drive, and she receives physical therapy to
regain use of her right arm. A phone call rather than an e-mail
would be a welcome gesture. Since she has use of only one hand
e-mail responses require a laborious effort on her part. Linda is
returning to the sunny climes of California. She continues to finish
out December with us, but is trying to wrap up loose ends before
heading west.
To Karen and Linda we extend a big
thank you for all the efforts you have put into this position.
Weekly Tournament Chair requires extensive dedication and we all
appreciate the time and effort you each brought to SAWGA this year.
Linda, we wish you a safe journey home, and Karen, we wish a speedy
recovery for you. I extend my wishes to you to have a joyous and
blessed holiday season. May God’s love and God’s peace be with each
of you.
Peace,
Jeanne Parsley
President 2008-2009
