Also introduced were new members Candy Moore, Lisa Berridge, Mayoma Pendergast, and returning member Maria Sosa.  Also recognized was Genie Edgar, a 50-year member of SAWGA.

The minutes of the meeting held May 23, 2011 were read and accepted as read.  Motion was made by Sandy Hogan, seconded by Gayle Fisk to approve the minutes.  Motion carried.

Syd gave the treasurer’s report and the membership report.  Currently the treasury balance is $2,991.60 and, as of August 15, our membership stands at 116 with several new members pending.   Twenty-nine members have paid their dues.  She reminded members to renew their memberships by October 31 in order to continue to have access to the SAWGA website.  Dues are $35.00.

Kathy Zurawel, Social Tournament Chairperson, thanked Fair Oaks Ranch staff for hosting today’s Tee-Off Tournament and lunch.  She reported the Christmas Tournament and Lunch will be held at Olympia Hills on December 12 and the Spring Awards Tournament on May 21 at the Quarry.

Cindy Turek, Summer Play Chairperson, awarded the gift cards from today’s drawing.  Winners were Kathy Zurawel, Mary Bodenheim, and Flo Scott.

Brenda Mosely, Tournament Chairperson, discussed this year’s schedule which is now online.  The first play day is at Willow Springs on September 12 at 9:00 am.  There were several new courses added to this year’s schedule – Northern Hills, Golf Club of Texas and Canyon Springs – all will be played three times this year.  Both Northern Hills and Golf Club of Texas are priced at $28.00 and Canyon Springs is priced at $35.00.  All courses are Ringers except Ft. Sam Houston.  She reported that she is still working on the Club Champion at Brackenridge.  The schedule is firm until the end of the year.

Penny Nyman, Special Tournament Chairperson, reported that the First Friday Tournament will be on Friday, October 7 at River Crossing at 9:00 am and The Palmer Course at La Cantera on November 4. The cost is $55.00 at both courses.  She is also working on scheduling the TPC Course at a cost of $80 which does not include lunch, Sonterra, The Hyatt Hill Country Resort, and Tapatio Resort.  The format for First Friday is Skins over the field – both low gross and low net.

Syd announced that we hope to have the SAWGA Club Championship at Brackenridge.  The Board approved a two-day, back-to-back event.  In order for new members to qualify for the event, they will need to have played at least five times in a SAWGA event to be eligible to compete in the Club Championship.  The tentative date for the Club Championship is May 7, 2012.

Bay Ponseigo, Ringer Chairperson, reported all scores must be reported on the Ringers’ scorecard, not just the number 1 and 2 handicap holes, on all golf courses played except Fort Sam Houston.  Members will keep track of the scores of those holes.  Only Low Gross is awarded in each flight.  Winners will be recognized at the end of the season.  Ringer winners from the past year were Fran Harris, Deby Meeks and Bay Ponsiego.

In the absence of Terry Lambert, Syd Muenster reported that Terry was going to start sending only one email message a week announcing when we are going to have play days.  Syd explained how new members register for play days by using the online registration in the “Members Only” area of the SAWGA website and encouraged all members to use the online registration.  Additional information and a password may be obtained by contacting the Communications Chairperson, Terry Lambert, on the SAWGA website at www.sawga.org.  She reminded members they are responsible for the fees if they do not cancel or do not show after registering for a play day.
