At the time of this writing, your president is
looking out the window counting rain drops – again.
We in San Antonio are not used to going several days
without a golf fix, but these past few months have seen more
extremes of weather than we have experienced in at least a few
years.
As one who does not like cold weather, this South
Texan had to again adjust the golfing attire to compensate for these
extremes. Is it a three layer day? Here lately it's been more like
a five layer day. How about a bucket hat and rain suit? Any number
of combinations may be needed to get out on that golf course. The
thing is: we just want to get out on the golf course.
It seems only fair to warn those of you with full
cart covers and cozy warm propane heaters that green eyes and
conniving minds may do any manner of things to coerce you out of
that cart so that a quick thaw of a five layer person may be made
before gripping that frozen stick of a golf club.
Cold weather, rainy weather, windy, windy days – they
all seem to fall on our sacred sanctum sanctorum golfing days. |
We might warn all the courses in San Antonio and
surrounding areas to be prepared for the onslaught of crazed golfers
when the first hint of sunny skies seems to last more than
twenty-four hours. We will be more than ready to get away from
movies, TV, household chores, shopping, and any number of mind
distracting activities to get ourselves outdoors and onto what
should become lush green golf courses.
Mother Nature has outdone herself with the variety of
weather possibilities this past year. We've gone from severe
drought to checking our feet for webs, our voices for quacks, and
our noses for frostbite.
We should have a glorious spring though. Let's get
ready to stop and smell the flowers even if those flowers happen to
be in the rough.
Think drier, think warmer, and be ready to hit 'em
well under sunny skies!!
