December 2008 Minutes

SAWGA GENERAL MEETING MINUTES
DECEMBER 15, 2008

The meeting was called to order by Jeanne Parsley, President.

Board Members present were: Jeanne Parsley, Irene White, Nancy White, Bay Ponsiego, Carol Buss, Peggy Baker, Mary Lucas, Susan Powell, Cindy Tuerk, Linda Stahl, Grace Walker, and Linda Smythe. Members absent were: Karen Antis, P. J. Wright, and Gayle Fisk.

Dorcas Stearns motioned to dispense with the reading of the minutes - "Derb" Westhoven seconded; the motion was passed.

Jeanne thanked Nancy White for the organization of the Christmas Playday Party and Luncheon. Even though the weather prevented an organized golf tournament, we all enjoyed the festivities.

Peggy Baker asked the group to start saving soap, lotion, and other toiletries (hotel size); these will be donated to The Battered Women’s Shelter. The Bake Sale for the shelter was successful. Peggy also passed the hat for a collection and we were able to make a total donation of $507 to the Shelter for Battered Women.

Jeanne discussed the loss of both tournament chairs; Karen Antis being involved in a serious auto accident and Linda Smythe moving back to California. Gayle Fisk has graciously agreed to be the tournament chair for the remainder of the year.

Mary Lucas announced Donna Brady will be a member of the Board of Directors for the Women’s Texas Golf Assn. for 2009. Mary also said there will be an Eclectic Tournament at the Republic March 1st & 2nd sponsored by WTGA and several other tournaments will be held in our area. Check the SAWGA Website Calendar.

Jeanne announced that Cindy Tuerk won the “Getting to Know You” quiz for November.

Nancy White conducted the door prize drawing. Door prizes were donated by Bay Ponsiego, Shirley Watts, and Wendy Molnar; many thanks to them.

“Best Dressed for Christmas” prizes went to Shirley Watts and Linda Smythe.  With no other old or new business, Jeanne closed the meeting.

Respectfully submitted,
Irene White, Secretary
