SAWGA GENERAL MEETING
MINUTES The meeting was called to order by Jeanne Parsley, President. Board Members present were Jeanne, Gayle Fisk, Peggy Baker, Bay Ponseigo, Cindy Tuerk Irene White, Nancy White, Mary Lucas, Karen Antis, Linda Stahl, P. J. Wright, Susan Powell and Grace Walker. Absent were Linda Smythe and Carole Buss. Jeanne thanked Barbee Winn for being our hostess for the Tee Off Coffee and introduced Barbee’s husband, Linton Weems. Jeanne presented the Board Members, and introduced two members and Terry Lambert, our webmaster. Minutes were read by Irene White, and a motion was made by Peggy Baker and seconded by Gayle Fisk, to accept the minutes as read with one date correction. Motion was approved by membership. Each board member gave a report and explained her job duties to the group. Peggy Baker—1st VP—Presented Barbee Winn with a hostess gift — a “brass ring” and a book about the history of carousels (one of Barb’s hobbies!) Gayle Fisk—2nd VP--reported we have lost four members and gained eight new members. Last year we ended with 138 members. Gayle took checks for new or re-newed memberships today and said dues must be paid by September 30, in order for a member to be listed in the membership directory. Terry Lambert then encouraged us all to visit the SAWGA website as often as possible. We can only secure advertising on our website if the site receives “lots” of hits daily & monthly. Advertising would help our website be self-funded. He reviewed everything which is on the site and asked for suggestions for additional information to be included. Cindy Bagwell asked that directions to each Monday’s host course be included and Terry said that would be possible. Look for scores, calendars, golf course information, tournament news and many more “goodies” on the website at SAWGA.org. Grace Walker—Communications—said she will send our event information to the general membership once. After that she will post all info on the website. Nancy White—Treasurer—presented the budget as approved by the board in July. The budget is based on a projected membership of 143. We need to increase our membership to that number or above. Karen Antis—Tournament Chairperson—Had 2008-2009 schedules available. The home course will be Silverhorn and play will begin there on September 8th. Nancy White—Special Events—Last Monday Playdays—August 25—Kick-Off Tournament at Tapatio (58 signed up); September 29th—Sonterra ($40.00.) The Last Monday schedule is on the website. The format will be gross and net skins and closest to the pins. Cindy Tuerk—Summer Play—Presented Academy gift certificates to those who had participated and earned points during summer play. Each time a member played on the summer playday, her name was entered into a drawing held today for golf prizes. Thanks to Jane Ward for donating the umbrellas. Bay Ponseigo—Ringer—Ringer Board Tournament begins on the home course, Silverhorn, on September 8th and continues all year. Each time a member plays at Silverhorn, she can improve her score on each hole. Gross and net winners are announced at the spring awards lunch. PJ Wright—Social Tournaments—Christmas Tournament & lunch-December 15th at the Republic. EOY awards tourney and lunch is May 18th at Canyon Springs. The fall net tournament will not be held due to a lack of interest. Instead, on March 30th a SAWGA Club Championship Tournament will be held. (Site TBA) There will be one Gross and one Net Winner. Gross and net prizes will be paid in each flight. Linda Stahl—Handicap--Discussed need to have handicaps updated monthly. Problems at Ft. Sam (w/o a computer) should be resolved with the FS members. Susan Powell—Historian—takes pictures and posts on website. Mary Lucas—Rules—Standing Rules have been revised and will be in the new membership directory—Please be sure to read them. NEW BUSINESS Membership agreed that we would all like to receive information if one of our members is ill, but should have permission of the individual to have that information shared with the group. Jeanne discussed the new Brackenridge Golf Course. She has taken two very informative tours. Said she can arrange another tour if anyone is interested (probably on a Wednesday morning). Contact her by phone or e-mail if interested. Limited play will begin on the course in the fall. SAWGA may be able to play there in late spring. The BWGA’s Guys/Dolls Tourney will be March 9th. There will be a “Memorial Drive” soon to help raise money for renovating the clubhouse. There was no more New Business. Mary Lucas moved the meeting be adjourned and Derb seconded. Motion carried. Respectfully submitted, Irene White
